Background of Cainta

Cainta is just one of the cities or municipalities located in Rizal region. According to its history shared on their website, Cainta was found on August 15, 1571 and it is one of the oldest towns in Rizal having 26.81km2 as its total land area. Among the cities of Rizal - Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Cardona, Jalajala, Morong, Pililla, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Tanay, Tatay and Teresa, Cainta is known as the city that showed so much progress for the past few years. Because of this progress, you can tell that instead of thinking that Cainta is a rural area, it can now be considered as an urban area. Up until now, many modern and tall buildings are being built including the extension of LRT 2 station until the Masinag area. This just shows how much change the officials of Cainta want to happen for the improvement of their city. Aside from the modern buildings, there are also different institutions that were built such as school, hospitals and the like.

At around 2:00pm, me and my father went for a walk around the community since the barangay official I have interviewed was not available for the day. All throughout our walk, we have noticed that there are a lot of flood level indicator attached on many posts around the community. Even at the gate of a nearby public school which just shows that the barangay has been doing its job in preparation for disasters particularly with typhoon flood. Disaster Risk Reduction and Management

Among the typhoons that hit the Rizal region, the most devastating would be Typhoon Ondoy which happened 5 years ago, exactly on September 26, 2009. This typhoon was considered the most devastating one for the region due to its high flood level and the casualties it made as seen in the aftermath of the said calamity. Cainta is just one of the areas that was greatly affected during the typhoon since the region was very flooded due to the continuous rain pour for consecutive days.
