Reflection

Image
I have been living in our barangay for about 10 years now, and one of the calamities that would greatly affect us would be flood caused by heavy and continuous rainfall. We would often experience even the low level of flood even if the rain is not that heavy but continuous. This of course would cause other risks for us especially concerning our health. In our barangay, the most affected ones would be those who are living in low areas since the flood would always be their number one enemy. Those who are also isolated would be affected especially if their place is considered to be hazardous. Other than that, people who have sari sari stores would be affected as well financially since they need to be new set of things that they would sell after the typhoon. It is like they have to go back to 0. The good thing is that the barangay officials and other volunteers are willing to help these people who are affected.  Aside from the intense flooding within our barangay, another issue wou

Background of Cainta

Image
Cainta is just one of the cities or municipalities located in Rizal region. According to its history shared on their website, Cainta was found on August 15, 1571 and it is one of the oldest towns in Rizal having 26.81km2 as its total land area. Among the cities of Rizal - Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Cardona, Jalajala, Morong, Pililla, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Tanay, Tatay and Teresa, Cainta is known as the city that showed so much progress for the past few years. Because of this progress, you can tell that instead of thinking that Cainta is a rural area, it can now be considered as an urban area. Up until now, many modern and tall buildings are being built including the extension of LRT 2 station until the Masinag area. This just shows how much change the officials of Cainta want to happen for the improvement of their city. Aside from the modern buildings, there are also different institutions that were built such as school, hospitals and the like. photo taken from: h

Community Walk

Image
At around 2:00pm, me and my father went for a walk around the community since the barangay official I have interviewed was not available for the day. All throughout our walk, we have noticed that there are a lot of flood level indicator attached on many posts around the community. Even at the gate of a nearby public school which just shows that the barangay has been doing its job in preparation for disasters particularly with typhoon flood. Other than that, the we have also took some pictures on places that we think are hazardous and safe. We also took some pictures that show the best practices which can be observed in our community. HAZARDOUS PLACES: As you can see from the pictures above, these are places within our community that may be prone for hazards to happen. Narrow streets might be hazardous especially if there is a sudden Earthquake that would happen. This might cause for rescuers to have a hard time due to the debris of parallel buildings. People might also str

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management

Among the typhoons that hit the Rizal region, the most devastating would be Typhoon Ondoy which happened 5 years ago, exactly on September 26, 2009. This typhoon was considered the most devastating one for the region due to its high flood level and the casualties it made as seen in the aftermath of the said calamity. Cainta is just one of the areas that was greatly affected during the typhoon since the region was very flooded due to the continuous rain pour for consecutive days. Aside from that, knowing that Cainta is also known as a city that has a low land, we were really prone to experience sudden high level of flood and it was really quite inevitable for it to be avoided.   photo taken from:  https://marikinacity.wordpress.com/2009/10/01/my-typhoon-ondoy-ordeal-4/ photo taken from:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gScLc7FmVlA These are just some of the photos taken after the typhoon Ondoy. As you can see, the 1st picture above shows the road of Marcos Highway where pe
